OMG!!! I love this series. I don't know where I was when these books were being reviewed individually, but I'm so glad I read this trilogy. I totally agree with Sour Skittles about the Alias and Dark Angel tones, and the X-men vibe. I also see some Pretender elements with the whole being sent on missions where they can be anyone. My daughter is totally into fan fiction and mixed story fan-fiction, especially when the X-men are involved. This story is totally something she would be into.I devoured (yes the right word is devoured) these books. I stayed up all night reading instead of sleeping and then kept on reading instead of sewing my Christmas presents. While totally bad for my timeline of present making, I loved the books.
I give this entire trilogy 5 out of 5 clouds and seriously plan to make my daughter read it as soon as her finals are over. If I let her now, she will never get her studying done.

Forbidden Mind The Forbidden Trilogy 1 Volume 1 Kimberly Kinrade 9781939559005 Books Reviews
Kinrade's "Forbidden" series is off to a promising start with this YA paranormal thriller. A covert agency is training and renting out kids with paranormal abilities a la X-Men. Heroine Sam teams telepathically with Drake, a boy hidden somewhere on the premises and whom she has never seen, to plot their escape. While the book seems overly short, the action is fast and furious, and the ending is satisfying. The imaginative premise should be the envy of all YA authors. Join me in following this saga through the next two volumes!
I am not a big reader of paranormal fiction but having got to know Kimberly on Twitter, I thought way not switch genres for once? Well, I was so pleasantly surprised. Her protagonist, Sam, is immediately likeable and the situation in which she finds herself has a very real feel to it. I love the whole chilling concept of Kid for Rent and found it easy to suspend belief while I read the book. All the characters were well drawn and the tension that jumps out of every page makes this book a real page turner. When I got to the final page (at 100 AM), it left me wanting to know more about what happens with Sam and Drake. A great read that I would recommend to anyone.
I'm not a big fan of young adult books, but the description and positive reviews for "Forbidden Mind" caught my eye and I decided to give it a try. Glad I did. This is a fun, fast-paced novella worth the time for anyone who enjoys paranormal/sci-fi adventure, whether old or young.
The main character, Sam, is a mind reader at a school for kids with paranormal powers. On the verge of graduation and the opportunity to lead a normal life outside the school, everything Sam thought she knew is turned upside down upon meeting Drake via mind connection.
Together, they uncover what their school is really all about and make plans for their freedom... and revenge.
The teenagers in this book are strong and likable and I felt genuinely invested in them. Not an easy task when writing about teens.
I look forward to the next installment in this trilogy.
I'll admit to being a little late in reading the Forbidden series, but I quickly remedied that. I usually stray form the young adult genre having grow out of that phase by several years, and only stray back into it when I'm buying a book for my oldest daughter. When I received these books it was by a awesome stroke of fate. I finished both book one and two in less than two days.
Delving into the world of the Rent-a-Kids was interesting to say the least. To me it was a experience all in its own, much like a crystal ball, one that when you spin in your hands you still see the real world reflected, but with a mystical and intriguing twist. The entities in the book worked off of each other in a way that created each unique personality to stand on their own and light the way for each to have their own story and yet you don't want the story you're in to end.
I loved Sam's strength and ability to stand for what she believes is right. Her loyalty to her family/friends was absolutely amazing, even when faced with the probability of loosing the one man she's ever loved over one fateful decision she stands by her beliefs.
Drake is the boy most girls can only hope to find. Sam was lucky enough to find him. From the moment he met Sam all he can think about is her. When their plot twists comes up he doesn't shy from it. He barrels into it with all the love he can.
You get to meet Lucy and Luke in Forbidden Mind, and its a instant 'Can't wait to read their stories'.
I can't praise this book/series enough. But I can happily say that my daughter has 'book-napped' both and threatened to never return them. Which is saying something.
