Meanwhile it became more and more dangerous to speak up for the Sylvani, who were gradually persecuted for more implausible crimes as people grew used to keeping silent. Men lost all their rights and became property in much the same way.

These are not your parent's hobbits. While most of the sex is not too explicit, it can be violent and intense. Sex is woven into this fantasy, as are violence and domination. The Vleth and their servants seek to dominate those they lust after, emotionally and psychologically, physically and violently, even painfully.
